All The World's A Stage...

Lately, I've been mixing sound for my church a few times/month. It's definitely been a learning experience, but it's also been a lot of fun. This last week, I was driving somewhere listening to the radio, when I realized just how much the sound of a band is more than the sum of its parts. When I'm mixing, I strive to make sure that each instrument can be heard clearly. Bass, guitar, drums, keys, vocals, all are necessary for a good sound. When I hear a song on the radio, though, it seems like the focus is on the so-called "front man" - lead guitar, lead vocals. Drummers get some attention too.

This week, though, I was listening a little more closely. If you listen, you notice all the parts: the drums have to be mixed in correctly, the bass has to be present but not overwhelming, and so on. _Every_ sound has to be present.

I was applying this to life in general. Some people "stand at the back of the stage" in life. They don't look like the "movers and shakers", but in reality, they're just as important as the person you see on stage. I'm not sure what application this has for my life. Maybe it's just that I am more valuable in life than I feel, and should step up into that role.
